Katrina! This was such a lovely piece to start my day with. I am also living in Asheville now and trying to reckon with the grief of all that we have lost. And boy, did I love the description of contra dancing! I spent my high school years contra dancing at Warren Wilson and you evoked the wonder of that experience so beautifully. Thanks also for lifting up such important charities doing the good work on the ground here in WNC. I've been doing some of my own writing about my experience in the storm and after. If you're curious, you can find it here. https://riahnewfont.substack.com/publish/home

Thanks so much, Katrina, for being a voice for WNC!

Riah! What a lovely and encouraging comment to see this morning. I miss contra dancing. I haven't gone in years mostly because we've been away for WNC and now my kids keep me busy, but I hope to introduce them to the fun dance soon. Thank you for reading my words! I'll check your work out now, and I hope you can find some peace and gratitude today.

It’s an American problem: we need to focus on problems, not on “breaking news”. Entertainment like that in Rome’s Colosseum shouldn’t exist in this century 🥴
